WASHINGTON, July 17, 2012 - The Renewable Energy Markets Association (REMA) announced today that WindMade, the the world's first global consumer label for companies, events and products using wind power, has become its newest member. The membership reinforces WindMade's commitment to growing interest and investment in North American renewable generation.
"The U.S. is a key market for renewable energy and thus of prime importance to the success of the WindMade label. The partnership with REMA will open up new opportunities for accessing theU.S. renewables sector by leveraging REMA's knowledge of the industry," said Henrik Kuffner, WindMade's CEO. "REMA will be a valuable partner in expanding customers' understanding and interaction with green power and we are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation."
Launched in mid-2011, WindMade seeks to increase the global use of renewable energy andparticularly wind power, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote resource efficiency and energy security. It plans to accomplish these objectives through providing companies with the means to demonstrate their commitment to renewable energy and by enabling consumers to make choices which support their own commitments to sustainability. To date, these activities have included the development of a WindMade label for Companies and Organizations and a separate label for events. Recognition for products is under development.
"We are excited to have a closer relationship with WindMade and work in concert to promote renewable energy in North America," said Josh Lieberman, REMA General Manager. "Consumers large and small are looking for ways to support renewable energy, and WindMade will provide another opportunity to do so, whether through an event, corporate culture, or everyday purchases."
